Explore the Unparalleled Power of the Dodge Durango

May 23rd, 2019 by

No SUV can beat the Durango when it comes to power. Unlike other SUV’s on the market, it offers a range of engine options including a 6.4-liter V-8. In addition to the engine lineup, the Durango has a roomy interior, it can handle off-road terrain like a champ, and it offers a smooth on-road ride. Explore the unparalleled power of the Dodge Durango.

The Engine Lineup

Dodge offers three different engines with the Durango. The lineup starts with a 3.6-liter V-6 that generates 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. A 5.7-liter V-8 is an available option for the Citadel and standard on the R/T and makes 360 horsepower and gets 390 pound-feet of torque. The SRT is the most powerful Durango and comes with a 6.4-liter V-8 engine that makes 475 horsepower and generates 470 pound-feet of torque.

All the engines work with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The SRT gets a TorqueFlite eight-speed with a similar design as the rest of the Durangos, but it has a different calibration, and drivers can manually shift it using the steering wheel paddles. The SRT also has a sporty flat-bottomed steering wheel.

The Performance

Even the base engine in the Durango has the power to pass other cars on the highway easily, but if you bump up to the SRT and the 6.4-liter V-8, you’ll get one of the most powerful engines in this class of vehicle. The V-6 will accelerate up to 60 miles per hour in 8.1 seconds, and the V-8 blows this away with a zero to 60 time of just 4.4 seconds.

The Drive Modes

Dodge added seven different drive modes to the SRT to make it capable of adapting to any conditions. Choose from street, sport, track, snow, tow, valet, and eco. Changing the mode will adjust the suspension, shift points, stability control, torque distribution, and engine mapping. Choose street for a comfortable on-road ride, sport to tighten up the suspension and increase the shift speeds, or track when you drive over smooth flat surfaces. Tow mode adds stability control and activates trailer sway control, and ECO adjusts the shifts schedule for better fuel economy.

Towing Capacity

When equipped, the Durango can tow up to 8,700 pounds which is one of the highest ratings for an SUV in this class. It comes standard with trailer sway control, which applies brake pressure on alternating wheels and will adjust the engine throttle to help keep the trailer from swaying and keep both the Durango and the trailer stable.

The SRT

In addition to the more powerful engine, the SRT comes with performance extras that the other trims don’t have. It comes with performance-tuned steering, an electronically controlled limited slip differential, and it has an adaptive high-performance suspension. This version of the Durango also comes with upgraded Brembo brakes and a launch control system that brings all the controls together for better straight-line acceleration.

The Dodge Durango is one of the most powerful SUVs on the road. It also offers a smooth ride, a comfortable cabin, and the latest technology. Don’t miss out on the chance to come into Rainier Dodge & Ram Of Olympia in Olympia, WA, and test drive one of these incredible machines for yourself.
